Overview of the Department of Asian Languages

The Department of Asian Languages was established for the first time in the middle of the academic-year 2007/2008. This newly-founded department continues with the University of Jordan's time-honored tradition of providing its students with quality education; mainly in the field of Asian language and the literature.

Currently, the department hosts four B.A. joint programs as follow:

  1. Korean/English program, established in the  first semester of the academic year 2006/2007.
  2. Chinese/English program, established in the first semester of the academic year 2009/2010
  3. Russian/English program, established in the first semester of the academic year 2010/2011
  4. Turkish/English program, established in the first semester of the academic year 2010/2011

In addition, the department offers academic instruction in other Asian languages such as Japanese and Hebrew; which are expected to be upgraded to full B.A. program status in the future.

The department represents the center-point for the academic pursuit of Asian languages in Jordan, and acts as a cultural bridge between Jordan and many Asian countries by holding various cultural days and events and introducing the respective cultures and ways of thinking of many Asian countries, enriching the experience of our students, and creating within them a global citizen who is capable of dealing with the challenges of a world that is rapidly globalizing. The department prides itself with maintaining excellent ties of cooperation and friendship with many foreign embassies and international cooperation institutions, working together to provide students with the best and most satisfying of learning experiences provided in the University of Jordan.
